Our story of how we became acquainted with Joan Wurst and the Everwind Ranch Beagles is probably similar to others, and it started out with a tragedy. It involved the sudden loss of our Beagle/Jack Russell mix, Lucy. Shortly after Lucy passed my wife said she couldn’t stand the quiet and stillness in our home. We were both in shock and grieving and truthfully I couldn’t even think about another dog. From November to January my wife shared many MANY beagle posts of dogs who needed a good home. Adorable, worthy dogs who needed a good home, still I could not consider it.
One day my wife broached the topic of working with a Breeder. We had no experience with a breeder. At first, I rejected the thought entirely. We weren’t going to show a dog! As we talked more, I think the thing that finally tipped the scales for me was the idea of working with a reputable breeder, one whose bloodline was carefully screened for health issues and also had a strong genetic foundation. We looked at several accredited AKC breeders and one resonated with us. The Everwind Ranch photographs of their dogs, testimonials from past clients, and the history of the business, were all great, but the one thing that stood out over and over again was the passion for the breed.
We filled out an extensive questionnaire and scheduled a call with Joan to ask a long list of questions. The woman has the patience of a Saint, the asking questions is still ongoing, and our pup is almost 1. We did some suggestive reading and put a deposit down on a litter planned a few months down the road.
Joan educated us on our place in line for our new baby. She explained the process of the “puppy draft” and once we heard from her about the litter being born, we received pictures of the pups and videos too. We arranged for a visit to the ranch to meet the pups at 6 weeks. Here we were with the cutest pups in the world and adult beagles who were every bit as precious. What a treat our meet and greet was…meeting Joan was a highlight too. She had become a friend and a legend of sorts to us for the past several months now we were all together.
Draft day came and we had our “ranked” list in order of desire. Joan called to let us know it was our turn and who was available. We ended up with our hearts desire, but really there was no bad choice in the bunch.
We stay in contact with Joan and consider her a dear friend. We send her pictures and videos of Bunny. We tell her stories of people asking if she is a stuffed animal, or people stopping us in walks asking to take her picture or people who stop to talk while driving by. It is crazy. We did not want a dog to show, but we ended up with a “show dog”. We love her to the moon and back and we will be ever grateful to Joan Wurst for our best friend!!!

We have had beagles for over 18 years and were blessed enough to get one from Everwind in 2020. Over the last 2 1/2 years we thought about adding a third beagle as there was a 10 year age gap between our two males. There was no question that we would go back to Joan Wurst at Everwind Beagles. Rugby is two and has an extremely strong personality and has an energy level that our 12-year old Beagle, Hunter does not match nor wants to match. After consulting with our veterinarian, we decided that adding a third dog to our pack would keep our 2 year-old Rugby well engaged, while allowing our older beagle to enjoy the days on his preferred chair in the living room and going for nice walks.
Rugby is a stunning 13” beagle who is affectionate and athletic with strong features and a very solid build. He fully exemplifies the breed and turns heads everywhere he goes. The most critical part of adding the third dog was how everyone would fit in. In conferring with Joan, she had tiny female with an incredibly sweet disposition. Darcie is inquisitive, polite, and intelligent with gentle features. She is easy going and has already taken to training very well at 12 weeks. A great deal of this is due to much of the advanced work that Joan already did with her, including litter box training her (she already sleeps through the night), responds to some basic commands, and wants nothing more than to simply keep up with her big brothers.
Joan’s dogs are simply perfection. When we were looking for a breed in 2020 (shortly after our first beagle passed) we connected to a breeder in the south, but determined it was logistically too difficult. When we mentioned we had been in touch with Everwind, her remark was, “Joan breeds exquisite beagles.” A truer statement could not be made. We adore Rugby and Darcie and they have fit well into our home. We are eternally grateful to all Joan has done for us and all she does for this wonderful breed.

Hi Joan,
A little over a year ago we brought this cute little puppy home and named him Remi. He made himself right at home and was spoiled by each of us along with every other family member and friend of ours.
Remi quickly became known around the neighborhood as we couldn’t walk far without someone that was walking stopping or a car pulling over to say how cute he was or that he looked like a stuffed animal, and if someone didn’t stop Remi ran up to them as though he was saying, hey look at me.
Remi was such a good puppy, he housed trained quickly and slept in his crate from the very first night with no problems at all. He has a great personality, good natured , and is friendly with everyone. He is a very fine beagle, with beautiful colors, we couldn’t have asked for a better dog!
Remi loves everyone especially his sister/ best friend Alyssa and his Grammy and Grampy that has watched him from the start. He also has a best friend/ cousin that is a pocket beagle her name is coco. Remi and coco run and chase each other almost every as coco lives right across the street.

She is a fuzzy ball of pure joy, and we’re having a blast training and socializing her with friends and family. Joan Wurst is a very friendly and extremely knowledgeable dog breeder. We got two puppies from her, and both of their temperaments are great for our household with young children. Joan understood the traits in a dog that were compatible with our household to select the puppies that would be a good match for our family. She not only looked at the personality of each puppy in the litter but also how they interacted with each other to find us the perfect pair. Our girl is more reserved while our boy is more outgoing, but they get along tremendously and compliment each other very well. Beagles are like potato chips you cannot just have one especially if they are Everwind Beagles!
My name is Rain Shifflett and I am a beagle addict and it all began with a little beagle boy we call Rev. My grandmother and I loved Snoopy and on her last days on earth she told me that I should never let anyone get in the way of my dreams to go back to showing dogs “Snoopy Dogs”. I messaged a friend of mine and asked her if she knew any Beagle breeders. She passed off the name of a handler who emailed me a list of four different breeders. I was instantly guided to Joan Wurst’s name at the bottom of the list. Putting a phone call into her I told her just what I was looking for. A male show quality. Joan told me she had one and she believed he was sold. I simply told her if it was meant to be it would be. A day later after admiring the picture of this handsome young man I asked Joan to place my name on the puppy list. I received a text that this boy could be mine. I was thrilled and we made all the arrangements. Since this time Everwind’s Bugle Boy of Company B Playing Reveille or “Rev” as he is known at home earned his Champion status at 9 months of age with three major wins under his collar. We are currently working on our GCH. I have Joan and Jordan to thank for this amazing pup and it only goes on from there.
I was called by Joan and said that she had a female that would need a special home since she is just a princess. We welcomed into our life “Meme” or Everwind’s Count Me In. A little spit fire who is no doubt the queen of this household, Meme is my Fast Cat and soon to be Rally contender. Smart, funny, loves to dress up Meme, is an instant hit with all the people she meets. Her first Fast Cat everyone would yell , “ GO MEME” ! Meme also is a customer service dog at our automotive repair shop. While “tricks” are beneath this Queen pup she will have you in stiches with all her antics. So why just have two wonderful Everwind pups when you can have three?
We brought home Everwind’s Dreams Do Come True or “Tara”. After driving out to Joan’s beautiful ranch for the first time we had a reunion of sorts. Jordan and Joan greeted my husband and I along with the return of Meme and Rev for a visit. Tara’s “baby” pictures that I got only made seeing her even more special. Joan walked me through her development from whelping to when she was ready to go. This little girl is not only smart, stubborn she is beautiful. Only 13” she thinks she is as big as the Bloodhound ,who is her best friend, that she rules with an iron paw. This special little girl took a 4-point major at a show the week of Royal Canin in Orlando in 2019. Tara is on track for big things as she continues to mature.
Joan and Jordan put their hearts into not only their dogs but their clients. Always a phone call away or email when I had questions or concerns. Joan helped me get reacquainted with the show world. I joke that I am now Everwind’s south , but one thing is true I am so blessed to be a part of the Everwind family.

My name is Rain Shifflett and I am a beagle addict and it all began with a little beagle boy we call Rev. My grandmother and I loved Snoopy and on her last days on earth she told me that I should never let anyone get in the way of my dreams to go back to showing dogs “Snoopy Dogs”. I messaged a friend of mine and asked her if she knew any Beagle breeders. She passed off the name of a handler who emailed me a list of four different breeders. I was instantly guided to Joan Wurst’s name at the bottom of the list. Putting a phone call into her I told her just what I was looking for. A male show quality. Joan told me she had one and she believed he was sold. I simply told her if it was meant to be it would be. A day later after admiring the picture of this handsome young man I asked Joan to place my name on the puppy list. I received a text that this boy could be mine. I was thrilled and we made all the arrangements. Since this time Everwind’s Bugle Boy of Company B Playing Reveille or “Rev” as he is known at home earned his Champion status at 9 months of age with three major wins under his collar. We are currently working on our GCH. I have Joan and Jordan to thank for this amazing pup and it only goes on from there.
I was called by Joan and said that she had a female that would need a special home since she is just a princess. We welcomed into our life “Meme” or Everwind’s Count Me In. A little spit fire who is no doubt the queen of this household, Meme is my Fast Cat and soon to be Rally contender. Smart, funny, loves to dress up Meme, is an instant hit with all the people she meets. Her first Fast Cat everyone would yell , “ GO MEME” ! Meme also is a customer service dog at our automotive repair shop. While “tricks” are beneath this Queen pup she will have you in stiches with all her antics. So why just have two wonderful Everwind pups when you can have three?
We brought home Everwind’s Dreams Do Come True or “Tara”. After driving out to Joan’s beautiful ranch for the first time we had a reunion of sorts. We wanted to take advantage of this puppy nap time to say words cannot express our gratitude to you for the little beagle who has made our house a home! She is a fuzzy ball of pure joy, and we’re having a blast training and socializing her with friends and family. Of course, as the newest and cutest resident of the neighborhood, she’s also meeting fawning neighbors every time she goes outside (and graciously accepting belly rubs and ear scratches from each one). We’re doing pretty well with sit, stay, come, and lie down, and she’s a champ at using the litter box, which is a world better than puppy pads. Thank you so much for that tip!

We can’t wait until she’s got all her shots and can start exploring the rest of our big little world, and we owe it all to you. I can’t tell you how daunting finding a great beagle breeder was at the start of our puppy search. We spent months researching and contacting breeders, trying to ask the right questions and find the right fit. You were so thoughtful, thorough, and lovely from day one that we didn’t hesitate to get on your waitlist and then drive six hours out of the city to pick up our new puppy from Everwind Ranch. Clearly it takes a winning person to breed such winning beagles. And even though our beagle won’t be in the ring, she’s already won us over.
